WHOO! THAT CALLS FOR A CIGARETTE

First of all, before you people who have the sense of humor like that of Janet Reno e-mail me by saying, "...You're a fucking twat! Smoking is for losers!" -- I don't smoke. See the title? It's a joke. It's supposed to sound like I just had 6 rounds of bed action, but I didn't. Usually, when people go through several rounds of naked dancing they have a cigarette after release. I have no idea why. It's always in the films. Always.

Anyway, I guess one could've compared it to that, I suppose. On Sunday (three days ago), two extra shows were added to No Doubt's tour -- for Tuesday (last night) and Wednesday (tonight). It was the last time anyone would be able to see No Doubt for awhile; music world rumors state Gwen Stefani is going solo soon and you know how the Beyonce effect works.

I bought some tickets and despite the impulse Gucci move, it was worth it. It was my second time watching them, so it was no surprise that it fucking kicked California ass.

Openers Phantom Planet were a great disappointment. They've definitely changed. And it wasn't a good change. 45 minutes of the self-titled garbage (with the exception of "Big Brat" because, hell, it's an okay piece) and, of course, "CALIFORNIA." That's when the place fucking blew up and a unison revelation of "OHHHHH THAT'S WHO THEY ARE!" ensued.

Sure. It lacked keyboards. Sure. It lacked the right key signature (I've seen them play it before, in the right key). And, oh, did I mention a lack of Jason Schwartzman? God, I really miss him in the group.

I guess it's a new era for those guys. Let me just say this: They suck now. I guess they don't give a shit about their first two incredible albums, the works that got them noticed. Screw them (until they get their real, true, fun act back.)

But who cares -- at least they didn't headline.

No Doubt played Spiderwebs (their ultimate and best live piece) and I finally got to see the bass player play It's My Life (if you listen to the bass line, it kicks SO much ass). It was a great, great show. Definitely one of the best impulse purchases ever.

Word, yo.
