INSPIRING

The new Largo is fantastic. I've heard so many awful things about its relocation--the lack of bar (opening in two weeks), the large theatre format, the general angst seeded in nostalgia from its Fairfax origins--but I'm so impressed that I've got to say this new listening room rivals that of the Hotel Cafe and the Jazz Bakery.

200 people this quiet? For two hours? That's a record, at least in my book. You could hear the overhead lamps buzzing. That's probably because everybody was sober, but, still, it's nice to be in a room with respectful adults who admire listening to music.

Sure, I miss the old corner stage hangout that was a virtual secret to native angelenos, but I'm not the kind of chap that likes to reminisce too much about, well, anything. I like change. Change is good. Change is the wake-up call that we're all still breathing.

But this new Largo is fucking ace, man. Jon Brion's continued Friday residency for the win.

Peace,
Hugo
